Reduce Sealer Failure on Stamped Concrete with ONE Simple Step

Several factors contribute to premature failure of sealer on stamped concrete projects. One of the most common, easiest to remedy, and most overlooked parts of preparing your stamped concrete project for application of the sealer is proper removal of excess powdered release from the surface. Pressure washing is the most commonly used method, however; this isn't enough.

Powdered release agents are hydrophobic (they repel water). To help you in removing the excess release we suggest using an easy and inexpensive method utilizing a floor buffing machine. You will need to attach a green or white buffer pad to the machine, depending on what abrasion is needed. Using the buffer pads on a buffer machine will allow you to hit the high spots without removing release from the lower spots and grout lines. By removing the release from the higher spots, you are allowing the base color(s) to really shine through.

Don't fret, using a floor buffer on all your stamped concrete will not add an extra day of work. This method requires the surface to be wet so you can complete the buffing and pressure washing at the same time. After cleaning the surface, allow the concrete to completely dry out prior to sealer application. Utilizing a floor buffing machine to remove excess release agent is simple, effective and will contribute to fewer call backs!
